Buttercup India — Children's Publishing
Storywriters · Grades 1 to 5 · 2027–28 onwards

Not a book they were given. A book they made.

turning readers into creators

Storywriters is a 10-month programme for Grades 1 to 5. A new 32-page booklet every month, a Popshelf of 20 Buttercup storybooks in every classroom, author workshops in school, and at month six every child's own story published in a real, illustrated book: name, class and photo on the page. A free copy for every child and for the library, at no additional cost. Story writing is the theme; the skills every school already teaches are the goal.

The challenge

Reading is declining. So are the skills it builds.

AI tools now summarise, answer and write in seconds. The thinking a child once did while reading, picturing, questioning, connecting and imagining, is easier than ever to skip. Core academics teach the content. These skills are built by doing.

The programme

Four parts work together all year: in class, on the shelf and in school.

01 · Every month

10 monthly booklets

A new 32-page booklet for every child, every month. Reading closely, picturing scenes, building a plot, writing their own: comprehension, visualisation, logical thinking and creativity, through the child's own story. Each one ends with the child's own story and a self-check.

02 · In every classroom

Popshelf

A Buttercup classroom library that complements the booklets and builds a daily reading habit. 20 storybooks in every section, chosen for creativity, with ready worksheets for every book and the same titles as ebooks and audiobooks. About the Popshelf →

03 · In your school

Author workshops

A Buttercup trainer comes to your school and works with the children. How to structure a story, how to write better, and tips from working authors. Tied to what the children are doing in that month's booklet.

A page from the Principal's desk

Every book opens with a message from your Principal, printed in every copy and taken home by every family. Your school's voice, your words, your photo and your signature, ahead of the children's stories.

Why the book matters

Not a book they were given. A book they made.

Six months of practice, then they hold the result in their hands: a real, illustrated book, the same standard as our bookshop titles. Parents see it at the next PTM. It is the most creative proof a school can give of what it says it teaches.

  • Their name, class and photo on their story. Nobody left out.
  • Proofread, illustrated, 32 pages, retail quality.
  • Physical proof of what they learned. Not a grade, their story.
  • A copy goes home to every child and family, and to the library.

You still remember the first thing you ever had published. So will they.
